~ Class Prophecy ~
Fifteen years have passed since the Class of '21 received their diplomas. On that memorable night of May 27, the Class of '21 agreed to unite, if possible in the auditorium of the Osawatomie High School after the lapse of fifteen years. That class once more has assembled. Everybody was anxious to hear from the other fellow. A hush fell over the whole assembly when Albert Day and his wife, formerly Margaret Fry, and Dr. Clifford Palmer entered the room. Let us listen to what they are telling of their lives since '21. Albert Day, we learn, has been a successful mining engineer in Panama, while our Doc has become a famous eye specialist of world renown. Now, enter Mrs. Du Margusene (Bernice Fuller) of Manila, and our old friend, Helen Bryan - M.D.S.; M.D.; B.S. of Kansas University. She is still as lively and full of pep as in her old high school days. Bernice, though a Frenchman's wife, is still the same as in '21, extremely loyal to O.H.S. Over in their old accustomed places sit Marie Stansbury and Hazel Jolley talking of their school days. Marie is a reporter in the House of Commons of London. Hazel, a greatly loved missionary in India, is the wife of a famous medical missionary. Both girls are doing a wonderful work and are upholding the dignity of O.H.S. Let us turn to that merry group in the old Freshmen section: Helen Wilkinson Prichard, famous interior decorator of Baltimore; Leona Coen, now the wife of the Lieutenant Governor of Kansas; Beulah Cartwright, wife of an oil king of Oklahoma; and Ada Saunders and her husband, who conduct a select school for girls near Boston, Massachusetts. But who is that party of distinguished looking people now entering? "Oh! How great!" we all exclaim. Frank Isenhart, owner and director of Isenhart's Band which toured Europe for fifteen years and Eva Verdier, who played the cello in Ik's Band since '21 are going to favor us with several musical numbers. The rest need no introduction, they are Hugh Phares, famous architect of New York City and Mrs. Phares, formerly Miss Flint, '24, and Mildred Lanphere, Captain of the First woman's Regiment on the Mexican Border. Here are Fannie Barber, Bernice Tuttle, and Bernice Gray. What have they done during the past fifteen years? Fannie is head of the Physical Training Department in Chicago University. Bernice Tuttle has been touring the United States and Canada heading her Chautauqua Company. Bernice Gray has a very enviable position as head buyer for Harzfeld's Parisian, of Kansas City. Her duties take her to Paris once a year. And who are the gentlemen on the stage? they are LaVoune Galbraith, LL. D., of Montreal, Canada, (and single, to our surprise). Bert Murphy, A.B.N.A., noted lecturer on higher education; Ralph Fee, general manager for Dodge Brothers, Detroit, Michigan; Harold Reynerson, U.S.Ambassador of Spain, with his wife, a beautiful Spanish Dancer; Conrad Divers, sedate and dignified as ever, a writer for Review of Reviews, Literary digest and American Magazine. Here comes Everette McMillen, late as usual, but let us hear his excuse, for you may be sure he has one. He said, "I couldn't get here any earlier, for I had to wait three hours for Mrs. McMillen to get ready." they came all the way from Japan to be with us on this occasion to enjoy our first reunion. |
