SYNOPSIS
ACT I

Scene: Sitting room at Kate's home in Vemont (at the old home).

Wanda and Kate make preparations to leave for Vassar. Kate loves John Willett, but from a financial standpoint, Mrs. Carroll insists that she should marry Amos North. Wanda also loves John Willett and deceives Kate by telling her that he had left for New York without telling her good-bye.

Kate is pathetically indignant and determines to comply with her mother's wishes and transfer her affections to Amos North, yet her genuine love is for John Willett.

ACT II

Scene: A Senior double at Vassar. (dormitory life and interference of Dean Page).

Kate announces her engagement to Amos North, at a tea. John Willett appears unexpectedly and Kate, in a rage, breaks her promise to Amos.

ACT III

Scene: Christmas vacation at Kate's home in Vermont.

Several Vassar girls have been invited to spend the holidays in the Carroll home. Kate's good time is cut short by the startling news that on account of finances it will be impossible for her to finish her year at Vassar. Amos demands more money for the carrying on of Mrs. Carroll's business. John Willett exposes North's scheme and turns over papers that will lead to his arrest. Amos forces Wanda to unlock the window so that he might steal the important papers.

ACT IV

Scene: Campus at Vassar (Graduation time).

In the flurry of excitement, John Willett arrives from New York. the old love is not yet burned out in face of the misunderstanding. Kate is overcome with surprise. Shiny plays a clever joke by informing John that Kate has an incurable disease. Everything is thrashed out and the engagement is announced. By enticing Amos with her money, Wanda has persuaded him to marry her.
