Trinclads Go To State

The annual Ottawa relays began the track season for the Trojans. The thinlads picked up 11 points by taking firsts in the pole vault and the medley relay. The next meet, at Pittsburg, brought only a single point to the Trojans. At the Paola meet, the cindermen racked up 31 points for a third-place finish. firsts were gained in the mile and pole vault, by Kuder and Dickey, respectively, whilte seconds were brought in from the 440-yard dash by Tom Troutman and the high and low hurdles by Crowl and Kuder.

The Trojans traveled to Baker, where they picked up two first places, the pole vault by Lynn Dickey, and the medley relay by Tom Troutman, Jim Reinecker, Ken Hinton, and Tom Kuder. The Trojans made their best showing of the year in Neodesha, by bringing home 16 medals. The boys, who placed second in the meet with 51 points, picked up 4 first-place finishes. Firsts were won in the mile run by Tom Kuder and the pole vault by Lynn Dickey. The mile relay, consisting of Jim Reinecker, Kenny Hinton, Tom Troutman, and Russell Berry brought in a first also. The meet record for the 880 relay ewas broken at Neodesha by Russell Berry, Denis Sumrall, Tom Troutman, and Jim Crowl.

The Trojan cindermen placed in the top three positions at the regionals at Fredonia, enabling them to participate in the state track meet at Manhattan. Lynn Dickey, Tom Kuder, Tom Troutman, Jim Crowl, Jim Reinecker, Kenny Hinton, Russell Berry, Denis Sumrall, and Ron Vest qualified themselves to go to state. Unfortuately, the boys were unable to place at the state meet.

Freshman Track


Members of the Freshmen track squad are: KNEELING: Steve Ricketts and Leroy Jones; STANDING: Kenneth Sumrall, Jack Buckman, Randy Frazier, Paul Day.

Netmen Had a Winning Season

FIRST ROW: David Kapp, Jack King, Mike Goodwin, Gary Cherry, Robert Hollinsworth, Steve Eichorn, Raymond Marvin, Jack Slayman; ROW TWO: Coach Heckart, John Craig, Mark Crouch, Keith Crouch, Dennis Reinecker, Duane Ludwig, John Koontz, and Phil Gonzales.

The OHS net squad, led by four seniors, compiled a score of four wins and three losses against the stiff competition of such teams as Paola, Baldwin, and Olathe. Leading the team in single matches was Dennis Reinecker, winning six and losing only three. Leading in doubles were John Craig and Jack Slayman, losing only two and winning seven.

At the DeSoto Invitational, Craig and Slayman gained first place honors in doubles, playing a rough set with Paola. also, Dennis Reinecker gained second in singles. Entering the regionals at Emporia, all OHS entrants failed to place.

Golfers Won Two

The OHS golf squad, directed by the new coach, Mr. Ralph Barclay, won two matches while losing four. They were led by Junior Bob Barnes, and Sophomores Frank Barnes, Bill Day, Bill Sinclair, and Bill Slayman. The clubbers traveled to Bonner springs, Paola, and DeSoto, playing each team twice. Near the end of the season, they ventured to Coffeyville to play in the regionals, but failed qualify. As the year went on, they gained much experience for the season and the coming year.
