1921 OHS Yearbook

~ Y.W.C.A. ~

In the year of 1919, our Y.W.C.A. organization became affiliated with the national organization. Previous to that year the enthusiasm for some Christian society in the school continued to grow among the girls, who with the help of faculty advisors brought about the very pleasing result which they have obtained.

Miss Elvira clack, a former Y.W.C.A. Field Secretary visited O.H.S. twice in an effort to advise the girls as to affiliation, and in so doing won the sincere friendship of every girl in school.

This year, the Y.W. has been carried on very successfully under the general management of a cabinet, consisting of two faculty advisors: Miss Marie Power and Miss Lavinia Leibengood; Helen Bryan, President; Katherine Beckley, Vice-President; Candace White, Secretary; Fannie Barber, Treasurer; and other officers as the president deemed necessary to appoint.

Fifteen dollars was appropriated from the funds toward the support of Miss Vance, a Y.W. worked in foreign lands.

Three delegates were sent to the Estes Park Conference last summer, returning with reports of ideas and inspiration for another year's work. More girls expect to go this summer and are putting forth strong efforts toward that goal.

At the Fall Conference at Manhattan, our organization was represented by eight girls, who brought back to us reports of high ideals and ambitions of the true American school girl.

This spring of 1921, a new Cabinet was elected to take up the work of the old Cabinet, the majority of which leave their dear alma Mater. Candace White was elected President; Vera Brown, Vice-President; Violet Moraine, Secretary, and Margaret Ackerly, Treasurer. They are carrying their work on with diligence, and we leave with them our sincerest wishes for a successful year.
