Girls' Basketball
Louisa Jackson "Corky", captain of this year's team is an old veteran at the game, having played for three seasons and has always been considered among the O.H.S. stars. "Corky" is noted for her cool head work and pleasing disposition at all times, which goes to make a good player. "Corky" plays the game well at any position, but her regular place is guard. She is one of the Seniors who is leaving school and will be greatly missed when the basket ball season begins next year. Lucille "Sit", a player who has been classed among the best of O.H.S. guards for the past two seasons. "Sit" is the one who instills "pep" into the team and helps the ball out of the enemy territory. She is always after the ball and but few players outclass her in speed. Lucille will be back next year and will be a great factor in making a fast team. Loree Day, a forward of this season's team and one who has the honor of being the highest point maker. She has been the means of making this year's team a success. Loree is known for her ability to evade her guard and always makes a place to which her team mate can play the ball. When the ball is in her possession, you might as well mark up two more for O.H.S. Loree is a Junior and no doubt will develop into a wonderful player next season. Mildred Voshall "Mid", is a forward of this year's team. who has at all times shown the opposing team real class. "Mid" has developed into a good player thru hard practice and should be given full credit for her efforts. Although "Mid" has played a supplementary game with her teammates, she has done well and will make an enthusiastic player next year. Fannie Baker "Fan Tan", played the position of running center this season and occasionally lending a hand to an injured guard. She played an excellent game at this point and is noted for her speed and good passes. But few of her opponents have ever outclassed her. Fannie is a Sophomore, so we expect to have her with us for two more years. Cora Roseberry has been the star of the center this season. Cora generally gets the tip-off over her opponents and plays an exceptional game. She has always played with the pep and enthusiasm of one who puts forth her best efforts for the team. Some of the faithful substitutes who made it possible for the good form of our first team are: Mildred Lanphere, Ruby Grow, and Lovonia Arbogast, and they should have their share of praise. |
