Larry Eugene Doudna, 48, Osawatomie, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at the Hospice House in Topeka.

The youngest of the seven children of Oliver Kenneth and Ollie Mae Green Doudna, he was born Oct. 4, 1951, in Stanton. He attended school in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1969.

He entered the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 12, 1970, during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged Aug. 17, 1973. He then served in the reserves until Feb. 11, 1976.

Mr. Doudna was an engineer with Union Pacific Railroad until he became disabled. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He was married to Violet Marie Ballou on March 7, 1972 in Paola. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of two children. Their marriage ended in divorce. He and Lynn Cooper were married in 1980. They were later divorced.

Among those preceding him in death were his parents, a brother and a sister.

Survivors include two sons, Shane Michael Doudna of Ottawa and Mark Alan Doudna of Osawatomie; two brothers, Charles Doudna of Chanute, Kan., and Bill Doudna of Kansas City; two sisters, Ruth Gray of Little Rock, Ark., and June Mock of Oskaloosa, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Services were today (Wednesday) at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery, with military services conducted by a unit from Fort Riley. Pallbearers were Mark Atwood, John Atwood, Jim Ferguson, Shane Doudna, Mark Doudna and Travis Butler.

Memorials may be made to Midland Hospice of Topeka or Kansas State University Cancer Research Center.
