ROY STEVEN DIAL

CLASS OF 1969 

JUNE 8, 1951 - OCTOBER 3, 2007 

Roy Steven "Steve" Dial, age 56, of Mound City, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas, died unexpectedly at his home October 3, 2007.

He was born June 8, 1951 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of six children of Ray and Geraldine (Plaisted) Dial. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1969.

Steve was married to Janice Sue Burton on August 3, 1973 at Paola, Kansas. They became the parents of four children. They made their home in Paola, then moved to Block, and later moved to Osawatomie. They had moved to Sugar Valley Lake in Mound City a year and a half ago.

He served his country with the United States Army. His military service began in 1971. Most of his military time was spent in Germany. He earned the rank of First Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1973.

Steve had been working as a Sergeant at the Lansing Department of Corrections in Osawatomie since 1987.

He is survived by his wife Janice of the home; his parents Ray and Gerry Dial of Paola; four children Sheramie Sue Wilcox Cain of Louisburg, Kansas, Casey Lynn Wilcox of Mound City, Kansas, Ray Steven Dial of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Carla Jean Dial of Mapleton, Kansas; five siblings Gary Dial of Collinsville, Illinois, Cindy Dial of Paola, Kevin, Brian, and Tony Dial all of Osawatomie; 8 grandchildren Aaron Cain, BJ Wilcox, Stevie Dial, Lane Harris, Mikaela Dial, Luke Villers, Trevor Johnston, and Abby Johnston; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Visitation will be an hour before the service on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery, rural Paola, Kansas, with full military honors. Memorials are to the National Kidney Foundation.
