CLASS OF 1969 MARCH 6, 1951 - APRIL 26, 2007 Sonja Kay (Belshe) Scott Hannah, age 56, of Osawatomie, Kansas died April 26, 2007 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola. Sonja was born March 6, 1951 at Russell, Kansas. She was the daughter of Joel Otis and Gloria Joan (Geckles) Belshe. Sonja's father died when she was just nine years old. Her mother was remarried to Lamont Weaver in 1965 when Sonja was 14. At that time they made their home in rural Paola. At the age of 16, Sonja started pursuing her lifetime career in nursing when she went to work at the Miami County Hospital in Paola as a nurse's aide. Sonja graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1969. She then attended Mid America Nazarene College for a year and then Fort Scott Community College where she got her nursing degree. She was married to Larry Scott in 1972. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children. She and Larry were divorced in 1992. Sonja married Thomas E. Hannah in September of 1998 at Ottawa, Kansas. They made their home in Osawatomie. Her nursing career spanned a time period of 28 years. She was currently working at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center as their charge nurse. She had been working there since January of 2000. Sonja not only impacted the lives of the residents at the nursing home with her caring nature, but also the lives of her co-workers. She attended and was raised in Assembly of God churches. She was a member of the Nursing Association. She had several hobbies. She loved music, especially country and gospel. She played the piano and the accordion. Fun times were had at the casinos where she particularly liked the penny slots. She was really into shopping. Sonja also enjoyed boating and fishing as long as she could bait her hook with gloves on and get someone else to remove her catch from the hook. Twelve years ago, Nick Tang became a part of the family and still lives with them. Sonja always considered Nick as her son. Her grandchildren were very important to her and a big part of her life. She was preceded in death by her father Joel Belshe in 1960, her mother Gloria Weaver in 2006, and her step father Lamont Weaver in 1991. She is survived by her husband Tom of the home; two sons Larry Scott, Jr. and his wife Christa of Paola and Tyler Scott of the home; her daughter Andrea Michelle Scott of Paola; her sister Joan Moraine of Marshalltown, Iowa; two grandchildren Kaleigh and Blake Scott; her "adopted" son Nick Tang of the home; 4 step children; 8 step grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Paola Assembly of God Church. She will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. |
