Leonard Russell Crowl, 58, Emporia, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Newman Regional Health Center.

He was born June 16, 1950, in Chanute, the son of James C. and Merriam E. Lowry Crowl. After graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1968, he received an undergraduate degree and a master of business administration degree in 1978 from Emporia State University. He was a member and officer of Sigma Tau Gamma and of the Blue Key.

On Sept. 4, 1976, he married Debra A. Miller in Haysville, Kan.

Mr. Crowl was employed in advertising at the Emporia Gazette for 10 years. Before that, he worked at Winters Furniture from 1976 to 1998.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Crowl of the home; his mother, Merriam E. Crowl of Paola; a son, Andrew J. Crowl of Manhattan, two daughters, Amelia A. Crowl and Hannah E. Crowl, both of Lawrence; two brothers, James C. Crowl of Osawatomie and Dennis H. Crowl of Paola; and a sister, Dianne Ventura of Greeley.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 102 Exchange, Emporia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Cremation will follow after the service.
