E. Frank Barnes, 43, Juneau, Alaska, a former resident of Osawatomie, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1993, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, after a short illness.

Frank, as he was known, was born April 30, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo., the youngest of three children born to Howard and Margaret Naoma Mortenson Barnes.

He attended school in Osawatomie, graduating with the Class of 1968. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1970.

He was married on August 18, 1970, to Lynn Marie Embry at Emporia, Kansas.

After graduation, they moved to Oklahoma, where he was a reporter and later an editor for the Oklahoma County News in Jones, Oklahoma. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1978, where he worked for OETA Public Television.

They moved to Juneau, Alaska, in 1980, and he worked for KTOO Public Television. He also worked for the National Education Association teachers union in Juneau. In the mid-1980s, he started his own publications business known as "The Type Shop", which he sold in 1991.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the Model Railroad Club.

Surviving are his wife, Lynn Barnes; a brother, Howard Alfred Barnes of Wichita; a sister, Margaret Ann Brown of Affton, Mo.; his stepmother, Opal Barnes of Osawatomie; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Ted Hunter officiated. Hazel Wilhoite sand "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden," accompanied on the organ by Rosalie Bowker. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Renoe, Bill Slayman, Craig Powell, Jeff Young, Pat Hewitt, and Frank Pretz.

Memorials may be made to the Osawatomie High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.
