Daniel Raymond Smith, Sr., 51, Osawatomie, died October 3, 2000 in Olathe Medical Center.

He was born October 31, 1948 in Osawatomie, the oldest child of Phyllis White and Samuel Linville. He attended Osawatomie schools and was a 1966 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

Mr. Smith served with the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until receiving an honorable discharge March 4, 1974.

He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for 27 years.

He and Loretta Jefferson were married April 28, 1968. They became the parents of three children. Their marriage ended in divorce in May 1977.

He and Joyce Seymore were married in March 1991 and they became the parents of one child. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Osawatomie.

Others preceding him in death included his parents.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Delores Smith of Osawatomie; three sons, Daniel Smith, Jr. of Dallas, TX and Justin Knight and Gavin Smith, both of Osawatomie; three daughters, Angela Clark, Latonia Smith and Leslie Anderson, all of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Chastity Seymore of Olathe; seven brothers, Donald Smith of Kansas City, MO, Dickey Smith of Salt Lake City, UT, Delton Smith and Bernard Smith, both of Osawatomie, Cardell Smith of Oxon Hill, MD, Phillip White of Plattsburg, MO and Claybourn White of Olathe; three sisters, Bernadette Elahi, Mardesia Johnson and Latonia White, all of Salt Lake City; his stepfather, Leo White of Kansas City, MO; and several grandchildren.

Services were in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Pallbearers were Bradie Ursery, Billy Wallace, Tom Turner, Louis Harding, Gary Troutman and Ernest Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Lester Lindsey and Hurbert Guliford. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials were to the church.
