Stephen Ellis Bonner, 52, Osawatomie, died January 26, 2001 in his home.

He was born June 24, 1948 in Kansas City, MO, one of three children of Edward Michael and June Irene Simon Bonner. He grew up in Osawatomie, attended school there and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1966.

Mr. Bonner then began working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and became a diesel mechanic. He retired early for health reasons from Union Pacific Railroad in the early 1990s.

He married Cheryl E. Bannister and they became the parents of two sons. He married again in 1976 and became the father of a daughter.

His parents and a sister, Leanna Buckman, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his two sons, Jason Bonner of Coffeyville, KS and Michael Bonner of Gardner, KS; his daughter, Alisha Bonner of Reno, NV; a brother, Edward Michael Bonner, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN and a grandson.

He was cremated. Visitation was held at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home with graveside services in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Memorials were to the Bonner scholarship fund.
