Richard Alan “Dick” Vess, age 66, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Louisburg Health Care Center in Louisburg, Kansas.

Dick was born September 7, 1944 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was the oldest of 5 children of Harry Robert “Bob” Vess and Gertrude Amelia (Jacobs) Vess.

He attended the Osawatomie schools. He was a former Boy Scout and Demolay. While in High School he set up a dark room at the school where they developed the pictures for their yearbook.

He graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1962.

Dick attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas for two years. Dick was hired by Black and Veatch as a Draftsman and Designer, where he was employed for 15 years. He also owned and operated his own company, known as Design Narrated Alliance.

He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Paola, Kansas. As a child he attended the First Christian Church in Osawatomie.

Dick was married to Patricia Pool in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Prairie Village, Kansas and Aurora, Colorado.

He was also married to Norma Chamberlain Fennel in Osawatomie. They lived in Osawatomie, Kansas. Both marriages ended in divorce.

He is preceded in death by Grandparents: Floyd and Gladys Jacobs and Harry and Leona (Cotton) Vess.

He is survived by his parents Bob and Gert Vess of Osawatomie; three brothers, Harry Robert “Bob” Vess II. of Humble, Texas; Gary Lee Vess of Palm Springs , California; F. Daniel “Dan” Vess of San Diego, California; one sister, Cathy Louise Vess of Overland Park, Kansas; Nieces, Nephews, other Relatives and friends.

Instate from 2-8pm, Tuesday, May 31st, at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, Kansas. Funeral 2 PM, Wednesday, June 1st at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Paola, Kansas. Followed by burial in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Visitation at the church from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, just before the funeral. Memorials are to the Osawatomie Alumni Scholarship Fund.
