Memorial service will be Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11am at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie, Kansas. Followed by visitation.

A gathering of family and friends will be at the Elks Lodge #921 in Osawatomie at 12:30pm.

Memorials are to the Kansas City Hospice House.

Toni Rae Mathia age 68, of Paola, KS died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care in Kansas City, Missouri.

Toni was born September 2, 1944 in Ottawa, Kansas, the only child of Roy Raymond Porter and Helen Irene (Anderson) Porter. The family moved to Osawatomie in 1955 and she graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1962.

Toni married Roger Mathia March 21, 1992. They made their home in Paola, KS. They enjoyed 22 years of marriage and raising their furry children, miniature Schnauzer’s Sophie and Sassie and bird dog Annie.

Toni was mainly a homemaker and mother of four daughters. She also raised champion AKC St. Bernard dogs, was a Girl Scout Brownie leader, and enjoyed gardening, boating, and anything to do with the water.

She worked at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie in the 1990’s thru the early 2000’s as an activities director. She later worked as an over the counter manager for Wal-Mart Pharmacy.

Most of all she loved being with her family and grandchildren and attending their many activities.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie and the Ladies Aux of the Hanlin –Kelley Post #2258 of the VFW of Osawatomie.

Toni was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by husband, Roger, of the home. Her four daughters: Kristyne R. Barrett and Kathy I. (Franklin) Jones (husband Tim) of Osawatomie, KS, Kendra E. Hatfield (Spencer Bonner) and Kara L. (Hatfield) Phillips (husband Andrew) of Lawrence, KS. One step daughter, Christie (Mathia) Feuerborn (husband Christian) of Eudora, KS and one step son, Mike Mathia (wife Dana) of Wichita, KS. Thirteen grandchildren: Joel, Ashley, Timmy, Nick, Christopher, Daonte’, Myles, Maleena, Cole, Cale, Trevor, Rachel and Ethan and seven great grandchildren.
