PITTSBURG — Larry W. Mitchell, 68, of Pittsburg, died at 5:40 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2011, at the Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Mr. Mitchell was born October 22, 1943, as Osawatomie, Kansas, the son of Wayne E. and Helen M. Guynn Mitchell.

Larry was a retired businessman who owned the Energy Battery and Electric Company in Houston, Texas. He also started the Energy Battery Group.

He married Elizabeth Ann Hendrix on March 12, 1993, at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Mrs. Mitchell survives at the home.

He was a member of the Crestwood Country Club.

He was raised in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1961. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.

He loved golfing, fishing, hunting and watching movies and sports.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann of the home; children, Nancy Ann Sparks (Chris) of Houston, Texas, and Lance Duane Mitchell (Jeanette) of College Station, Texas; step-children, Angelia Deese of Holly Springs, Mississippi, Michael Rainey (Lisa) of Collierville, Tennessee, and Amie Rainey of Collierville, Tennessee; two sisters, Patricia Ann Gaddie (Ed) of Plainfield, Indiana, and Mary Marie Schwindt (Ron) of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Travis Sparks, Paige Mitchell, Peyton Mitchell, Brittany Deese, Billy Rainey, Austin Rainey, Michael Rainey and Mickey Parmenter; a great-grandchlid, Victoria Sparks, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Larry D. Mitchell, and a sister, Billy Jean Page.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with Pastor Donnie Talent officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Osawatomie Cemetery in Osawatomie, Kansas, with the Ottawa American Legion Post #156 conducting graveside services. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. The family suggests memorials to the Mayo Research Clinic.
