CLASS OF 1961 JULY 25, 1943 - MAY 8, 2004 Charles Eugene Karigan, 60, Osawatomie, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at his home. Known as Gene, he was born July 25, 1943, in Osawatomie, the son of James Thomas and Zella Melvine Chancellor Karigan. He grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1961 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He served with the U.S. Navy for 23 years. He and Jane Sommer were married in 1967 in Greeley. Because of his military career, they lived in several different places. They became the parents of two sons. Their marriage ended in divorce in the mid-1970s. He moved to Arkansas in 1987 and returned to Osawatomie in 1988. Mr. Karigan was a member of Hanlin-Kelly Post No. 2258 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Osawatomie and the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Paola. His father preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Zella Karigan of Osawatomie; two sons, Daniel Eugene Karigan of Paola and Patrick Lynn Karigan of Osawatomie; two brothers, James Thomas Karigan of Olathe and John Karigan of Savannah, Mo.; two grandchildren; and one stepgranddaughter. A visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be William Eugene Karigan, John Richard Karigan, Todd Weaver, Matt Cushman and Richard Chancellor. Honorary pallbearers will be Kimberly Denise Karigan, Lori Ann Karigan-Weaver and Starla Susanne Cushman. |
