CLASS OF 1961 AUGUST 17, 1943 - APRIL 22, 2011 Patricia Ann (Buchanan) Mason, also known as Patty Buchanan, age 67, of Apple Valley, California, passed away Friday April 22, 2011 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Riverside, CA. She died from complications of COPD. Pat was born in Paola, Kansas on August 17, 1943. She was the younger of two children of John Harold and Gladys Price (Suddarth) Buchanan. The family moved to Osawatomie where she grew up. Pat graduated from the Osawatomie High School in the class of 1961. She attended Emporia State Teachers College for 3 years. All though she lived in many places she continued to work on her degree. Other universities she attended were University of New Mexico, Cal State Fullerton and University of Milwaukee. She graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 1997 with a Bachelor Degree in Marketing Pat was married on April 8, 1967 to Thomas Willard Mason in Pueblo, Colorado. They lived in several places through their marriage of 44 years. They became the parents of 3 sons. She was a 25 year resident of Apple Valley and co-owned ABC Business Services with her husband. She was an active member of Soroptimist International of Victor Valley and served as the clubs president in 1997/1998. In 2005, she was honored as Soroptimist Member of the Year. In 2009, Pat received 1st place in the Golden West District for the clubs newsletter. She served as the clubs treasurer for many years and was instrumental in the success of the Trauma Bear project which consisted of small teddy bears that were donated to area law enforcement agencies, firefighters and ambulance services. These bears were then given to children who experienced traumatic events in their lives. Pat was a very caring, generous person. She will be missed by all those who knew her. She was preceded in death by parents and one brother Richard Buchanan. She is survived by her husband, Tom Mason, three sons, Ensen Mason of Spring Valley Lake, CA, Harold Mason of Hesperia, CA and Bill Mason of San Jose, CA, one grandson, Travis Mason and two that considered her their grand mother, Joey Reed and Kyler Workman.
