BRADIE URSERY

DECEMBER 11, 1942 - MAY 11, 2005 

Bradie Ursery, 62, longtime Osawatomie resident, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at his home.

He was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Clarksville, Ark., the son of Brady and Johnnie Inola Joiner Ursery. The family moved from Clarksville to Osawatomie in the mid-1940s. He graduated in 1960 from Osawatomie High School and went on to attend Riverside Community College in Riverside, Calif.

From July 13, 1960, until Nov. 27, 1963, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve, where he served until July 12, 1966.

He and Toni Anita Ellison were married in Riverside, Calif. Their marriage ended in divorce.

On Jan. 28, 1991, he and Charlotte Moore Edwards were married in Osawatomie, where they made their home.

Mr. Ursery worked as a production technician at the AFG Glass Plant in Spring Hill. He went to work there in March 1992 and continued working there for 12 years before retiring in December 2004.

He was a member of the Brown Chapel AME Church in Osawatomie. He served on the 150th Osawatomie Sesquicentennial committee and was one of the many organizers of the Black Ties to Osawatomie reunions. He was a member of American Legion and a member of Masons for many years.

Those preceding him in death include his parents and three brothers, Kenneth Newton, John Ursery and Robert Dryden.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Ursery of the home; a son, Kenneth Ursery of Riverside; a stepson, Allen Ellison of Olathe; a daughter, Rachael Ursery of Grandview, Mo.; four stepdaughters, Tracy Basset of Fontana, Calif., Charlene Edwards and Bridgette Greenwood, both of Osawatomie, and Venessa Wallace of Paola; a sister, Rutha Eastland of Riverside; many grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers were Eddie Clearwater, Clayton Robinson, Kevin Harris, Herbert Guliford, Mike Atwell and Tommy Turner. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Vantrece, Don Wilhoite, Lavern Martin and Roy Reed.
