Funeral services for John Wilford Martin, Jr. who died May 4, 1961 as the result of an auto crash in California, were held in the Birchard Funeral Home, Friday afternoon. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs John W. Martin, Sr., was born Nov 16, 1942 at Fort Scott. He died at Camp Pendleton, CA. at the age of 19.

After attending grade school in Fort Scott, he moved with his parents to Springfield, Ohio. While in his sophomore year, he came here to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Hazle Martin. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1960.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960 at San Diego, CA. He was stationed there at the time of his death.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs Roberta Martin of Kansas City, MO.; father, John W. Martin, Sr., Santa Monica, Ca.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Hazle Martin, Osawatomie; and grandmother, Mrs. Correne Collins, Osawatomie.

The Rev. Floyd Guliford officiated at the services. Mrs. Guliford and Mrs. Nelle Dollar provided the music. Pallbearers were from the Olathe Naval Air Station. Military services were held at the graveside.
