Born June 21, 1942 in Osawatomie, she was a daughter of Marie Dorothy (Stansbury) and James Buford Cortner. Sue grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1960 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She graduated from Emporia State University of Kansas, and also earned her Masters Degree from Adam’s State College in Alamosa, Colorado. She taught school in St. Louis, Missouri for a number of years before leaving due to illness.

The remaining immediate family member is Carolyn Cortner Linnemeyer. She and her husband, Robert, live in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Carolyn plans to bring Sue home this spring to rest near their mother and father who are buried in the Osawatomie/Paola Cemetery. Also, their brother, Allan B. Cortner, and his wife, Alice, are buried nearby. Allan was also a graduate of Osawatomie High School.
