ROBERT "BOB "EUGENE KERN

JUNE 1, 1930 - NOVEMBER 28, 2015

Robert "Bob" Eugene Kern was born June 1, 1930 in Wymore, Nebraska and passed away November 28, 2015, at the age of 85 at Pointe Coupee Nursing Home in New Roads, Louisiana.

He fought a courageous battle against various heart problems.

He served in the United States Navy and defended his country during the Korean War.

He was a fun loving man who enjoyed traveling and loved a good laugh and the company of his many friends.

Bob worked for the Texas Pacific, Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad companies during his career in the railroad industry.

He was a Mason in good standing. As a Mason, Bob enjoyed riding a small motorcycle as "Choo Choo the Clown" in Mardi Gras parades and at many charity events. During his lifetime, bob has lived many places including Cotter, AR, Osawatomie, KS, Seattle, WA, Houston, TX, Matairie, LA and Melville, LA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Roxie West Kern; his father, K. R. "Shorty" Kern; and his daughter, Sheryl Kern Barbier.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, shirley Brooks Kern; their son, Michael E. Kern and daughter-in-law, Julie Hall Kern; his grandchildren, Natalie Barbier, William Barbier, Cynthia Headley, Jonathan Glennon, Brandon Kern, and Michael E. Kean, Jr.; great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Kern, of Krotz Springs, LA, and his sisters, Shirley Kern Cuthbertson of Carlsbad, NM, and Patricia Kern Roberts of Baton Rouge, LA.

The family would like to thank his care-givers at Pointe Coupee Nursing Home and the sitters who cared for him at his home.

Services were held December 4, 2015 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, Metairie, LA. He was buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery near his daughter, Cheryl.
