Louise Guthrie McDonough, 78, of Huntsville, passed away with her family by her side Sunday, December 12,

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Neil McDonough, and her parents, Lena Pearl and Charles Alexander Guthrie.

Louise graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1949.

Mrs. McDonough has been a resident of Huntsville since 1963, when her husband came to work for the Marshall Space Flight Center. She was valedictorian of her class at Louisiana State University and earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois.

She was librarian at the University of Illinois, University of California in Los Angeles, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and at St. Joseph and Holy Spirit Catholic schools.

She was an avid genealogist who was able to trace her family roots back to Jamestown Settlement Colony.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, United Methodist Women, Jamestown Society, Colonial Dames, and a Delta Zeta Golden Rose.

She was the beloved wife of 55 years to Dr. George Francis McDonough. She is also survived by daughter, Kathleen Anderson of Madison; sons, Thomas McDonough and Dr. Daniel McDonough, both of Huntsville; and three grandchildren, Kenneth Anderson, Stephanie Anderson and Scotty Anderson, all students at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

A graveside service presided by the Rev. Glenn Conner, will be held at 1 pm Thursday at Maple Hill Cemetery. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntsville Madison County Library Books Fund or the First United Methodist Church Library Fund.
