James O. Goldsmith Jr., 81, Yerington, Nev., died April 15, 2012, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

James was born May 16, 1930, in Osawatomie, the son of James and Dorothy Van Horn Goldsmith. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1949.

He married Nancy K. Asper in Van Nuys, Calif., on April 26, 1981.

He has lived in Yerington since 1996, having come from California. He worked as a roofer for many years.

He enjoyed square dancing.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and a sister, Dottie.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, James L. Goldsmith and Robert E. Goldsmith; his stepchildren, Carl Hancock, Julie Cordova, Laurie Hancock and Patty Haigh; his sister, Shirley McQuay of Osawatomie; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service took place Saturday at the Valley View Cemetery.
