MAURICE D. DURRANT

CLASS OF 1949

JUNE 15, 1931 - OCTOBER 9, 2000

Maurice Dean Durrant, 69, Salt Lake City, UT, a native of Osawatomie, died Monday, October 9, 2000 in Salt Lake City.

He was born June 15, 1931, in Osawatomie, the son of Auburn and Irene Durrant. Known as "Speed", he grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1949 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad prior to joining the U.S. Air Force and serving in the Korean War. He returned to Osawatomie and his railaoad career after the service before settling in Salt Lake City in 1957.

He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1990 with 41 years of service.

He and Florence Renz were married June 4, 1964 in Salt Lake City, where they made their home.

Mr. Durrant was a 48-year member of Osage Valley Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M., of Osawatomie and a 39-year member of El Kalah Shrine Temple of Salt Lake City, where he served as potentate in 1996.

He will be remembered for many years of volunteer service to Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children.

Among those preceding him in death were a brother, Darrell Eugene Durrant, who died in infancy, and a stepson, Bill Renz.

Survivors include his wife, Florence, of the home; two sisters, Elaine Fry and Irene Dollar, Both of Lake Ozark, MO; a stepson, Robert Renz of Austin, AO; a stepdaughter, Joanie Desrochers of Milford, CO; stepgrandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were October 14 in Kaibab Lodge No. 25 in Salt Lake City. Graveside Masonic services were Friday in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Osage Valley Lodge No. 24 or Masonic Food Bank of Kansas in care of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.
