MAURICE ZIMMERMAN

CLASS OF 1948

NOVEMBER 1, 1930 - JULY 15, 1992

 Service for Maurice Edward "Zip" Zimmerman, Route 6, Paola, were held Thursday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Mr. Zimmerman, 61, died Monday, July 13, 1992, in his home after a long illness.

Born Nov. 1, 1930, in Linn County, he was the son of Frank and LaVerne Rebecca Johnson Zimmerman, He attended Keokuk Country School until the family moved to Osawatomie, He was a 1948 graduate of Osawatomie High School. 

He and Sarah Ellen Bearly were married Dec. 24, 1950. They made their home in Miami County and became the parents of four children.

He worked several years as an electrician in the shops for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Osawatomie and farmed with his father, He was alson a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen, of the home; two sons, Roger Maurice Zimmerman and Mark Edward Zimmerman, Paola; two daughters, Frankie Dorene Gill, Parker, and Rebecca Sue Hubbard, Paola; and eight grandchildren.

The Rev. Curtis Roesch officiated. Nancy Snyder and Jean Smith sang, accompanied by Lois Bisig, organist. Pallbearers were Gene Brownback, Eldon Brownback, Elvin Troutman, Rick Laverack and Steve Winegar. Honorary pallbearers were James Bearly, David Bearly, Kevin Carothers and Donald Bearly. Burial was in Whitefor Cemetery. 

A memorial has been established in his name to the Olathe Hospice.
