HELEN MARIE SHOPE WINGFIELD

APRIL 13, 1930 - DECEMBER 7, 2015

Mrs. Helen Marie (Shope) Wingfield, 85, of Baldwin City, Kan., died on Dec. 7, 2015, in Olathe, Kan., following a long illness. She was a 1948 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

Mrs. Wingfield was born April 13, 1930, in Osawatomie, Kan., the daughter of Charlie E. and Marie O. (Symington) Shope. She grew up in Osawatomie and attended local schools.

She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Roy E. Wingfield, on Sept. 2, 1947 in Osawatomie. They shared more than 68 years of marriage.

After their marriage, they moved to California where Helen worked as a technician for Litton Industries and she specialized in airplane avionics.

The couple later lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri before moving to Olathe, Kan., in 1970, where she was a homemaker.

In 2007, the couple moved to Baldwin City, Kan. Helen enjoyed working on crafts and collecting angels.

Mrs. Wingfield was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Marie Shope; a sister, Ethel May Cassella; and a half-brother, Robert E. Shope.

Helen is survived by her husband, Roy, of the home; two sons, Richard Wingfield and his wife, Kathy, and Lee Wingfield, all of Olathe; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of family and many friends forever.

A Service of Remembrance was held on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2015, at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Duane Pedrow of Ottawa officiated at the service. Inurnment was in the Osawatomie Cemetery.
