RICHARD ARTHUR SHARP

Graveside services for Richard Arthur Sharp, Independence, Mo., were held Thursday in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mr. Sharp, 70, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1991, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Osawatomie and his parents are Alvin Lee Sharp Sr. and Mary Ethel Drake Sharp. He grew up in Osawatomie, attended Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1948.

He was employed as a carman for Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1945-46. In 1964, he moved to Independence and once again worked for the railroad until 1969. From 1969 until 1979, he worked as a custodian in the Independence school district. From 1975 until 1980, he again worked for the railroad.

His first marriage was to Geraldine Bowers. They were parents of a daughter, Barbara.

His second marriage was to Marabelle Ruth Clay on May 11, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan. They became the parents of a son, Richard.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Sharp was a member of the Pacific Heights Congregation of Jehovah Witness.

Among those preceding him in death was a brother, Ralph.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; his son, Richard Lee Sharp, Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara Harris, Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Robert Sharp, Osawatomie, and Alvin Sharp, Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Spooner, Independence, Mo., and Shirley Comstock, Waverly; and three grandchildren.

Don Watson officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.
