BERT LAVELL EDWARDS

CLASS OF 1948

MAY 9, 1930 - DECEMBER 10, 1965

Bertie LaVell Edwards was born May 9, 1930 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the only son of Leona and Bert F. Edwards and passed away December 10, 1965 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 35 years, 7 months and one day.

He attended school in Osawatomie and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1948. He served two years in the United States Air Force and after his discharge he was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad as an electrician. In April 1958 he began working as a mechanic for the M.A.C. Motor Company in Osawatomie.

On December 31, 1954 he was married to Frances Black and to this union two daughters and two sons were born. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #921 and the American Legion Hinkle Post #204. Bert became ill in June 1964 and had been in the hospital for several operations since then.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two daughters – Cheryl Ann and Pamela Sue; two sons – Jeffrey Lee and Bert William; all of the home; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bert F. Edwards and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Milton all of Osawatomie, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home on December 13, 1965 with the Rev. Neil MacPherson officiating. Pall bearers were: Jerry McDowell, Eldon McDowell, Glenn Lloyd, Roy Dale Cooper, Dick Miller, and Louis Hughes.
