SHIRLEY ANN MAYCUMBER BREWER

 

 CLASS OF 1948

DECEMBER 30, 1930 - MAY 27, 2011 

Shirley Ann Brewer was born in Lane, Kansas on December 30, 1930 to Ross Emery Brewer and Laura Myrtle Flinsbaugh Brewer. She joined a sister, Laurene June (Kettler) and later a sister Betty Lee (Paschke) was added to the family.

Shirley grew up in Osawatomie Kansas and graduated from OHS in 1948. She entered the nursing program at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City, MO and became an RN.

On December 2, 1951 she married her childhood sweetheart, Harold Maycumber. They had 4 children: Jill, Harold William Jr., Philip and Ann.

In February 1964, they moved half way across the US to Astoria, Oregon where Shirley and Harold served as Village Missionary Pastor and wife at Lewis and Clark Bible Church. In 1969, they moved to Mulino, Oregon and served Meadowbrook Community Church. The next years they served Monitor Bible Church (Woodburn, OR), Dalkena Community Church, (Newport Washington), Hillside Bible Church, (Forest Grove, OR) and Ingalls Bible Church (Ingalls, KS) for a total of 32 years with Village Missions.

When she was 24 she realized that she was a sinner and needed the free gift of salvation that Jesus offers. She spent the next years of her life sharing her love of Jesus and how He had changed her life with those around her.

In 1996 she and Harold retired from active ministry and moved "home" to Woodburn OR. She taught Bible Clubs in the neighborhood, VBS and shared her faith and family with others.

She leaves a legacy in her children : Jill Foster (Brent, ), Harold W Jr. or Bill (Jona), Philip (Janelle), Ann Frisque (Curtis); Grandchildren: Kyle Maycumber (Christy), Janelle Frisque, Michelle Ohta (Nathan), Ross Foster, Tyler Frisque, Russell Foster, Micheal Frisque, Reid Foster, William Maycumber, Morgan Maycumber, Wesley Maycumber, Luke Maycumber, Logan Maycumber and great grandson: Linkin Maycumber.

Her parents and sister June preceeded her move to heaven, but her much loved sister-Betts Paschke (Keith) and many nieces and nephews also remain.
