WILLIAM E. SELLMEYER

CLASS OF 1947

JULY 16, 1929 - SEPTEMBER 4, 2001

William E. Sellmeyer, 72, a resident of the Oakland, CA area and a native of Osawatomie, died September 4, 2001 in the Kaiser Oakland Hospital. He had been ill for the past two years.

He was born July 16, 1929 in Osawatomie, the son of Albert and Ethel Sellmeyer. He was a 1947 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year and served on several ships, notably the USS Toleda, a heavy cruiser that was the flagship of the Inchon invasion in the Korean War. After his discharge in 1951, he joined his parents in San Lorenzo, CA.

Mr. Sellmeyer worked as assistant tool depot manager for Bectol-Corp. in San Leandro, CA for many years and later as a teamster employed in the Safeway grocery warehouse in the Oakland area.

Among those preceding him in death was a sister, Mary Lou.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Sellmeyer; two stepdaughters, Sharon Bellfulle of Gilbert, AZ, and Noreen Swenson of San Lorenzo; a sister, Judy Brown of Fremont, CA; a brother, Ralph Sellmeyer of Branson, MO; and three grandsons.

He was cremated and memorial services were held in Hayward, CA.
