LLOYD W. GOODEYON

CLASS OF 1947

APRIL 9, 1928 - AUGUST 15, 1998

Lloyd William Goodeyon, 70, lifetime Osawatomie resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at his home.

Bud, as he was known, was born near Osawatomie on April 9, 1928 one of ten children of Herman Otto and Hazel Marie Stamback Goodeyon.

He grew up at Osawatomie, attended school there and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1947. He then began working for Kenyon Arbogast and learned to be an electrician. He joined the United States Army in October 1950 and served during the Korean War until November 1951.

He returned to Osawatomie and went back to work for Mr. Arbogast until September 1952, when he began his career with Kansas City Power & Light Co. He worked there until April 1983. Since that time he had been an independent electrician working in the area.

Mr. Goodeyon was an active member of the community. He served the residents of Osawatomie as a councilman for Ward I from 1973 to 1976, 1982 until 1990, and was elected again in 1995 and still was serving at the time of his death.

Besides community politics, he also was interested in community sports. He volunteered to run the yard markers for the local high school football games for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were his joys. Mr. Goodeyon taught many people about the outdoors. He loved to ride around in the country sightseeing with friends or by himself.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the American Legion Harry M. McDill Post No. 381 of Fontana, the Veterans of Foreign Wars John Hinkle Post No. 2258 of Osawatomie, the Elks Lodge No. 921 of Osawatomie and the Osawatomie Golf Course Men's Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Betty Jean.

Surviving are four brothers; his twin, Floyd Goodeyon of Olpe, Kan., Howard Goodeyon of Osawatomie, Louis Goodeyon of Paola and Joe Dale Goodeyon of Chanute, Kan.; four sisters, Maxine Ames of Paola, Nina Evert of Belton, Mo., Rosie O'Brien and Mary Lou Nichols, both of Granbury, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Joe Cramer officiated. Darrell Peckman sang "Tarry, O My Spirit" and "It's All in the Hands of God."

Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Goodeyon, Ronnie Goodeyon, Mike Goodeyon, Joe Goodeyon, William Scott Goodeyon and Howard Lee Ames. Honorary bearers were Jerry Law, Eldon Mills, Johnny Grother, Wes Cole, Denzel Tunks, Craig Powell, Larry Rhodes, Joe Baughman, John Cole, John Hampton, Pete Bennett, Doyle Thomas, Bill Hinman and Clifford Stephens.

Memorials have been established in his name to the Osawatomie Alumni Scholarship Fund.
