FLOYD MICHAEL "GUMP" GOODEYON

APRIL 9, 1928 - APRIL 18, 2008

Floyd Michael Goodeyon, 80, rural Olpe, KS, formerly of Osawatomie, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, April 18, 2008.

He was born April 9, 1928, in Osawatomie, attended schools there and graduated with the Class of 1947. He married his wife, Shirley, on Sept 1, 1951, in Harrison AR.

For 40 years he dedicated himself to a career as a construction manager for Fluor Engineers and Constructors, a job which took him all over the country and the world. During that time he worked in Florida, Missouri, Puerto Rico, Illinois, Kuwait, Pennsylvania, St. Croix, Borneo, Louisiana, South Africa, Alaska, the Philippines and Australia before retiring to him farm in Olpe in 2001.

With the same dedication that he put into his work, he spent his retirement devoting himself to building his farm and establishing a herd of Charolais cattle.

He will be remembered as a enerous and kind-hearted man. He always lent a hand to others and helped his family and friends. He enjoyed working hard, playing a game of poker, attending the local ball games, and watching a good western on TV. He always greeted the day with a whistle and a smile.

His wife of 44 years preceded him death in 1994.

He is survived by his children, Mike Goodeyon of Olpe, Marla Kunfermann Lagos, Nigeria, and Melanie Goodeyon of Sugar Land, Texas, three grand- children, and brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at Roberts Blue Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State, Emporia, KS 66801, (620) 342-2134. Memorials are to the OHS Alumni Scholarship Fund.
