WALTER B. CARPENTER

CLASS OF 1947

SEPTEMBER 6, 1929 - FEBRUARY 12, 2002

Walter Bradford Carpenter, Sr., 72, Rossville, GA, a former Osawatomie resident, died February 12, 2002.

He was born September 6, 1929 in LaCygne and his parents were Howard France and Esther Bugg Carpenter. He attended Osawatomie High School, was a drummer in the high school band, and graduated with the Class of 1947.

Mr. Carpenter had been a resident of north Georgia for 30 years. He worked for Brown's Shoe Co. in St. Louis, MO for several years before becoming a district manager for the company in South Carolina. He owned shoe stores in Georgia for a few years.

He was working for the city of East Ridge, GA, when he retired.

Mr. Brown was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 89th Division. He had been a member and officer of American Legion Post No. 95 in Rossville.

He was a Baptist.

Those preceding him in death included his wife, Rosester Faun Carpenter, and a daughter, Dary Renee Byrd; and his mother, Esther Piggott of Osawatomie.

Survivors include his son, Walter Bradford Carpenter, Jr. of Rossville; two sisters, Barbara Bunch of Lee's Summitt, MO, and Ruth Cox of Harrisonville, MO; four grandchildren; and former wife and friend, Betty Carpenter of Lady Lakes, FL.

Services were held in the Heritage Funeral Home in Rossville. Cremation followed.

Memorials were to Lakeview First Baptist Church in Rossville and the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
