ROSALIE BILLHIMER VAN HORN

MARCH 17, 1929 - APRIL 18, 2016

Rosalie M. Van Horn, age 87, of Kansas City, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18th, 2016 having passed away at Providence Medical Center. Rosalie was born on March 17th, 1929 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the younger daughter of Gusta A. Billhimer and Lillie Rose (Hendrickson) Billhimer.

She grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1947. On December 24th, 1947 she married James W. Van Horn Jr. also of Osawatomie. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they raised three sons and continued to live.

Rosalie worked for K.C. Title Insurance Company before her sons were born and later for the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools doing office work at several schools. She was also involved in P.T.A., serving on committees and in office positions including, President of Lowell Grade P.T.A. and Vice-President of the Kansas City, Kansas Council of P.T.A. and she was awarded a Life Membership. Her High School Alumni Association was important to her where she served as the Corresponding Secretary for her class and enjoyed the contact with her classmates. She was also active in the church throughout her life and was a member of London Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Harold Waters and her sister Erma Lou Oakley. She is survived by, her husband of 68 years, and her sons, James W. Van Horn III and wife Phyllis of Leawood, Kansas, Kenneth W. Van Horn of Shawnee, Kansas, and Daniel A. Van Horn of Kansas City, Kansas. Also, her five grandchildren, Shawna, Ryan, Bryson, Quentin, and Karl; and her three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Aidan, Trula Rose. and her daughter-in-law, Karen.

Rosalie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 at London Heights Baptist Church, 734 N. 78th St. Kansas City, Kansas. The family will begin receiving visitors at 10:00AM, with service to follow. Memorials may be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
