ROBERTA M. WALLER CLARK

 CLASS OF 1946

OCTOBER 25, 1928 - APRIL 3, 2013

Roberta May Clark age 84, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS.

Roberta was born October 25, 1928 in Osawatomie, KS. She was the eldest of two children born to Harvey C. Waller and Iona May (Chadwick) Waller.

Roberta attended the Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1946. She attended Ursuline Academy in Paola, KS.

Roberta was married June 24, 1951 in Osawatomie to Albert LeRoy Clark. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children.

Roberta spent many years working at the Osawatomie State Hospital before resigning to become a full time homemaker and mother. She and her husband Albert owned and operated the Montgomery Ward catalog store in Osawatomie from 1967 to 1981.

In 1985 Roberta returned to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital as an Administrative Assistant until 1995 when she retired. She also sold Avon for many years.

Roberta was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie.

As a daughter, wife, mother and sister, Roberta spent her life loving and enjoying many things. First and foremost her family was always her first priority. She and her husband, Albert, always made certain everyone had what they needed. There was never a shortage of love and devotion. Family gatherings and celebrations were frequent with Roberta looking forward to baking those special recipes, entertaining and most especially, the holidays. Those memories will always be cherished by the family.

Roberta enjoyed nature through the pleasure of watching a garden grow or the delight of a blooming flower displaying its bright and colorful display.

Finally, she always looked forward to the ritual of shopping with jewelry and high heels always at the top of her list. A simple Saturday excursion to the city always brought a smile to her lips and a gleam in her eye especially if her family was with her, regardless of the outcome. Whether a transaction occurred or not was not the point; rather it was the joy of the journey.

The joy of the journey describes Roberta’s life. She never complained and took life head on with an unstoppable courage regardless of what came her way.

Later in life she suffered from the horrible challenges of diabetes including an amputated leg and more than six years in the nursing home. She accepted each day with a quiet dignity that positively influenced those around her.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Albert Clark who passed away July 24, 2012
