MAXINE MARION TOOPS VAUGHAN

Maxine Marion (Toops) Vaughan, age 80, of Hutchinson, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, died June 4, 2008 in an automobile accident at Olathe, Kansas.

Maxine was born July 30, 1927 at Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frank and Irene (Johnson) Toops. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1946. She attended Barton County College and received a Bachelor Degree from Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri. She received a graduate degree in Administration from the University of Minneapolis.

She and Arnold "Smithy" Vaughan were married at Joliet, Illinois. They became the parents of three sons. Maxine's husband preceded her in death on September 26, 1999.

Maxine was employed at Mateno Illinois State Hospital, Osawatomie State Hospital, and Larned State Hospital. At the time of her retirement, she was a director of Youth Center at Larned State Hospital. She was a council member of the Volunteer Center in Hutchinson. She belonged to the First Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sons Gary Vaughan and his wife Teri of Claflin, Kansas, Larry Vaughan and his companion Dot Tammen of Russell, Kansas, Bruce Vaughan and his wife Beverly of Hutchinson; two sisters Shirley Denney of Gardner and Jo Lynn Orr of Olathe; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2008 at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association.
