STAUNTON -- The Rev. James Henry Scott Jr., formerly of 204 Burnley Drive, died Thursday (July 27, 2006) at King's Daughters' Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 9, 1927, at Osawatomie, Kan., to James Henry and Ethyl Lillian (Sublett) Scott. He had been a school principal and college instructor, and he served as pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church; Mount Zion Baptist Church; Rising Zion Baptist Church, Fairfield; First Baptist Church, Lexington; Mount Marine Baptist Church, Fishersville; and Smokey Row Baptist Church.

The Rev. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters, William Albert Scott, Gwendolyn Dickson, Lillian Carter, Helen Taylor, Mattie Ethylen Heggie and Corrine Glenn. Survivors include a brother, John Robert Scott of Pittsburg, Kan.; three children, Scottie and Anthony Pierre Scott and Sonja McPherson; and his former wife, Karen (Weaver) Scott.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will be at Thornrose Cemetery. Visitation will be at any time at 215 Ann St. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home.
