GLENN DALE O'BRIEN

 CLASS OF 1945

d. MARCH 28, 2016

Glendale "Obie" O'Brien Sr., 88, was born in Prague, Oklahoma and ended his journey in Grover Beach with his wife and daughters by his side.

He grew up and lived in Kansas where he graduated high school. He proudly served his country and joined the Coast Guard in 1945. In 1957 he moved his family to Bakersfield, California where he began working with Standard Oil, now Chevron, for 28 years before retiring and making his residence in Grover Beach.

Each October, and for 17 years, Obie enjoyed the annual family reunion in Lake Havasu - he was quite a fisherman. Obie was a role model to many, a hard worker, and a good family man who taught his children the meaning of family values and integrity. He loved his family, but his greatest love was for his loving wife of 67 years, Rosie.

He was generous and giving of himself and loved to teach others how to fix things and to do it right the first time. He had the best sense of humor and an arsenal of amazing stories that no one would ever get tired of hearing. He lived a simple life and enjoyed it. He enjoyed talking to everyone, and he never met a stranger. All who knew him, loved him.

He was a member of the Bass Fishing Club, VFW, and the American Legion.

He will now be in Heaven with his parents, sister, 5 brothers, son Glendale "Tex" Jr., grandson Christopher, and great-granddaughter Lauren Small. Surviving brother Denney O'Brien (JoJo) and his legacy lives on with his wife, Rosie, daughters Judith Edwards, Susie Small (Ken), and Brenda "Kate" Eucce (Steve). Grandchildren, Craig O'Brien (Niki), Rick, Eric, & Chuck Edwards, Kevin (Tuesdy), Aimee, Jason (Jessica) Small, Robin Woodward (Mark), Ryan Winget (Nicole), Ashley and Kevin "KC" O'Neil. Many wonderful great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service was held on Friday April 8, at 10:45 AM at the Bakersfield National Cemetery located at: 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, CA.
