Victor Wayne Hines, 80, Paola, died Wednesday, Aug, 6, 2008, at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Osawatomie, the only child of Vernor Paul and Florence Margaret Long Hines. He attended Osawatomie schools.

On Sept. 6, 1947, he and Flossie L. Bartlett were married in rural Osawatomie. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of six children. Several moves were made in his lifetime, but all of his homes were in Miami County. He and his wife lived in Paola for the past 10 years.

Hines served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

In the early years of their marriage, Hines worked as a pumper in oil fields and as a dairy farmer. He then worked at BEHM Co. in Osawatomie and Taylor-Forge Engineered Systems in Paola before becoming a self-employed electrician. He retired at the age of 67.

Hines was a member of the Plum Creek United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie Hines of the home; two sons, Stephen Hines of Nolensville, Tenn., and Philip Hines of Topeka; four daughters, Christine Owens of Osawatomie, and Jane Hines, Delores Haines and Meredith Drummond, all of Paola; a half sister, Verna Gatlin of Paola; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were LZ Drummond Jr., Joel Haines, Jim Player, Philip Hines, Larry Winder and Joel Owens.
