VERLIE CARPENTER WOBKER

 CLASS OF 1945

APRIL 24, 1927 - FEBRUARY 9, 2014

Verlie Willesta Wobker of Osawatomie, Kansas went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the age of 86.

Verlie was born April 24, 1927 in Osawatomie, Kansas; she was the younger of two children born to Glenn E. and Elsa M. (Hadsall) Carpenter.

She attended Trading Post grade school until the family moved back to Osawatomie, Kansas where she continued her education.

During her senior year she married the love of her life, Manford Wobker on November 17, 1944, and she graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1945. To this union was born 3 children, Carolyn, Richard and Daniel. Manford and Verlie were married for thirty-nine years. Manford passed in 1983 at the age of fifty-nine.

Verlie worked at several department stores in Osawatomie, before joining Manford in the family business as the bookkeeper for Wobker Motors. She retired on May 17, 1991 after fifteen years and four months from the Osawatomie State Hospital accounting department.

After retirement she enjoyed working at the Old Country Store and the Railroad Museum.

She attended and was baptized in the First Christian Church in Osawatomie; she enjoyed reading her Bible and attending Bible study groups.

Verlie most of all loved her precious family, and left them with fond memories of card games, fresh baked sugar cookies and most of all her favorite treat of malted milk balls, bike rides, fun and laughter.

Verlie is survived by her children: Carolyn Warner of Springfield, MO, Richard Wobker of Topeka, KS and Daniel (Wilma) Wobker of Osawatomie, KS, six grandchildren: Debra (Dan) Bratton, Stacey (Pat) Vaughn, Tina (David) Koger, Corey (Natalie) Burke, Elliott Wobker and Kevin Watson. Ten great grandchildren: Jessica (Jared) Thomas, Jalynn Bratton, Garret Bratton and Ashley Helms, Derik (Carrie) Vaughn, Bailey Vaughn and Justin Ducey, Chance Edwards, Casen Edwards, Hayden Burke, Weston Burke and Gavin Burke, sister in-law Rosalee Wobker of Paola, KS, one sweet niece and six ornery nephews.

Verlie was preceded in death by her parent, husband, her only brother Kenneth Carpenter and an infant grandson Aaron Prothe.
