Betty Marie Burgoon, age 82, of Paola, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, died August 13, 2008 at Olathe Medical Center.

Betty was born June 18, 1926 at Farlinville, Kansas. She was the daughter of Ray and Fern (Baston) Corbet. Betty was raised by her Grandma Baston up to age 10. She was also raised by her aunt and uncle Rema and Hugh Ross. She attended Lane High School 3 years and then went to live with her mother Fern Johnson in Osawatomie her senior year of high school. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1944.

Betty was married to Wayne A. "Buck" Burgoon on April 2, 1945 at Paola, Kansas. They became the parents of two children. Her husband preceded her in death on July 4, 2004.

She worked for United Telephone Company as their office manager from 1963 until her retirement in 1983.

Betty was raised a Baptist and attended area Baptist churches.

She had many hobbies. She enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles, dabbled a bit in photography to the point that she was a pretty good photographer, and also enjoyed doing family genealogy research.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers Frank Corbet and Jack Johnson, and one sister Delores Fern Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter Ramona Kay Jones of Waukegan, Illinois; her son Michael Wayne Burgoon of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother Jim Johnson and his wife Judy of Melbourne Beach, Florida; three sisters Norma Smith and her husband Don of Grain Valley, Missouri, Karen Knoche and her husband Verne of Paola; and Sharon Redding and her husband Jerry of Blue Springs, Missouri; three grandchildren Jeanine Denney of Gurnee, Illinois, David Jones of Paola, and Dwayne Jones and his wife Darlene of Akron, Ohio; four great grandchildren Bryanna and Brett Denney of Gurnee, Illinois and Kara and Kylee Jones of Akron, Ohio; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Jones, David Jones, Ryan Summerskill, Rick Johnson, Nelson Orwig, and Mark Mignot. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday. Memorials are to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
