ROSALIE BARNETT BUSSELL

Rosalie Bussell, 79, Osawatomie, died Monday, May 8, 2006, in Olathe Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Osawatomie, the youngest of the five children of Ben F. and Ruby Dorsey Barnett. She grew up in Osawatomie, attended Osawatomie schools and was a 1944 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She then attended Baker University for one year.

On Sept. 7, 1946, she and Ray Bussell were married in Osawatomie. They made their home in Kansas City, Mo., and became the parents of three children. In the early 1950s, they moved to Overland Park where they lived until moving to Osawatomie in 1973.

Known as "Rosie," she worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in De Soto during World War II. She had also worked in the school cafeteria at Shawnee Mission West and in Osawatomie schools, but first and foremost, she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Bussell was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church of rural Osawatomie and the Green Valley Social Club. She was also active in the Osawatomie Alumni Association.

She enjoyed being with people whether it be going out to eat, visiting with friends or just being with family. She liked growing flowers and had done a bit of painting.

Those preceding her in death included her stepmother, Gladys; her daughter, Marcia Lee Dodge, who died in 1984; two brothers, Leo Barnett and Raymond Barnett; and two sisters, Velma Krumsick and Maxine Everhart.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Bussell; her son, Alan Bussell of Paola; her daughter, Mary Johnson of Eudora; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, followed by burial in Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sean Bussell, Alan Bussell, Michael Bussell, John Rayl, Jeff Johnson and Burk Barnett.
