Graveside services for Carl Duane Barnes, 177 15th St., Osawatomie, were held Friday in Miami Memorial Gardens. Mr. Barnes died Monday, Aug. 30, 1993, in the Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Born Aug. 28, 1927, Waverly, Mr. Barnes was the son of Carl Henderson and Bitha Kate Woodruff Barnes. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1944. Mr. Barnes married Joyce L. Bliefert Nov. 27, 1948, in Reno, Nev. They became the parents of four children.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Barnes served in both World War II and the Korean conflict. After discharge from the Navy he barbered with his father until 1961. At that time he went to work for the United States Post Office. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the Osawatomie South Church of Christ and the John Hinkle Post 204 of the American Legion where he served as post commander. He served as president of the Osawatomie Alumni Association in 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the home; his mother Bitha Barnes, Osawatomie; two sons, Carl Robert Barnes, Salina, and Rick Barnes, Osawatomie; two daughters Rise A. Ward, Lawrence, and Robbi Jo Weis, Knob Noster, Mo; and six grandchildren.

David D. Sherlock, minister, was the officiant. Don Spitzenberger sang. Arrangements were under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

A memorial in his name has been established to the church.
