GLEN EDWARD TUSH

CLASS OF 1943

SEPTEMBER 29, 1925 - OCTOBER 4, 2001

Glen Edward Tush, 76, Greeley, a native of Osawatomie, died October 4, 2001 at Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.

More commonly known as Tuba, he was born Sept. 29, 1925 in Osawatomie, the son of Frank and Lela Darleen Tush Griffin. He was adopted by his grandparents, John C. and Eva Campbell Tush. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1943.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1943 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. He was discharged Oct. 24, 1946. He then attended Pittsburg State University for a year. He also served five years in the Korean War and was discharged Feb. 15, 1952.

He was married to Nina Marie Busch on Oct. 15, 1967 in Mayfield, KS. They lived in Kansas City, MO for a year before moving to Osawatomie. They became parents of two daughters. The family moved to Greeley 15 years ago.

Mr. Tush was employed in the property control and purchasing department of Osawatomie State Hospital for 24 years.

He coached Babe Ruth baseball in the mid-1960s and girls' softball for four years in the mid-1980s.

He was a former member of John Hinkle American Legion Post; Hanlin-Kelly Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, of which he is a past commander, and Benevolent and Protective Orders of Elks 921, all of Osawatomie, and the Pony Pull Association.

A sister, Nadine Davis, and two infant sisters were among those preceding him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Tush of the home; two daughters, Rebecca Colburn of Greeley and Johanna Schmidt of Topeka; a brother, John Billam of Osawatomie; a sister, Gerry Sue Law of Paola; and five grandchildren.

Services were at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery with military services at graveside. Pallbearers were Roy Busch, Brian Colburn, Terry Billam, Tom Billam, Curt Roberts and John Schmidt.

Memorial contributions were made to the American Diabetes Association.
