ELDON WARREN McKOON

CLASS OF 1943

 JUNE 30, 1923 - JANUARY 11, 2002

Eldon Warren McKoon, 78, lifelong Paola resident and Osawatomie native, died Friday, Jan 11, 2002, in Olathe Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born June 30, 1923, in Osawatomie, the son of Elmer and Freeda Meinig McKoon. He attended Paola High School and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1943.

He enlisted in the U.S.Army in January 1945 and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He was discharged in 1946 as a private first class.

Mr. McKoon farmed all of his adult life, retiring in 1998 due to poor health. His memberships were the Miami County Cooperative Association and Miami County Farm Bureau. He served on the Stanton Cemetery Board and on the Victory School Board.

A brother, Evan McKoon, who died Feb. 26, 2001, and an infant sister were among those preceding him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alma McKoon of the home; two daughters, Maxine Montague of Coppell, Texas, and Marla Dilliiner of Paola; two sons, Merle McKoon and Warren McKoon, both of Paola; a brother, Albert McKoon of Osawatomie; a sister, Veda Sallee of Wellsville; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Stanton Cemetery. Assisting with the foldiing of the flag will be his granddaughter, Kimberly Montague.

Memorials may be made to the Plum Creek United Methodist Church.
