RODERICK L. DEVER

CLASS OF 1943

Memorial services for Roderick Louis Dever, 738 Main St., Osawatomie, were held Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mr. Dever died April 12, 1986, after suffering a heart attack. He was 60.

He was born March 1, 1926 in Osawatomie, the son of Fredrick Steven and Mabel Gray Dever. He attended Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1943. After graduation he entered the U. S. Marine Corps. He also served in the Navy, Army Air Corps and Army.

He married Frances Rowzee and they were parents of a daughter, Janella Lane. This marriage ended in divorce.

On Jan. 22, 1959, he married Barbara Caylor and they made their home in Osawatomie. They were parents of two daughters, Kay Louise and Karen Lee.

For the past 23 years, Mr. Dever was employed by the Osawatomie State Hospital. Prior to that time, he worked for Safeway, Missouri Pacific Railroad and Pure Gold Dairy.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; three daughters, Kay Dever, Lawrence, Karen Colbert, Tacoma, Wash., and Janella Wittenbrink, Osawatomie; his mother, Mabel Dever, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Lois Smith, Portland; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. David Irwin conducted the services. Hazel Wilhoite sang, accompanied by Nelle Dollar, organist. Military services and burial of ashes were held in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name to the American Heart Association.
