MARVIN EARL CAYLOR

CLASS OF 1943

DECEMBER 28, 1925 - JANUARY 12, 2003

Marvin Earl Caylor, 77, rural Osawatomie, died January 12, 2003 in the Anderson County Long Term Care Center in Garnett.

The fifth son of Elmer L. and Altha M. Carey Caylor, he was born December 28, 1925 near Rantoul. He spent most of his life in the Rantoul area. He attended Osawatomie High School and graduated with the Class of 1943.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and served with the 77th Infantry Division stationed in Yokohoma, Japan.

On February 15, 1947, he and Mary Louise Goudie were married in Osawatomie. They became the parents of three children.

Mr. Caylor loved the land and was engaged in farming and raising cattle until ill health forced him to retire in 2001.

He and his brother, Francis Caylor, owned and operated Caylor Brothers in Osawatomie for 20 years.

Mr. Caylor also worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant at DeSoto during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was active in the Lane Masonic Lodge No. 339, AF&AM and Evelena Chapter No. 435 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lane. He held a life membership in the Scottish Rite Consistory of Fort Scott and was a former member of the Mirza Temple Shrine of Pittsburg.

Mr. Caylor helped organize and served as chairman of the Stanton Township Community Watch Program. He was a member of Miami County Cooperative Association headquartered in Paola, United Cooperatives, Inc., headquartered in Greeley and Ottawa Cooperation Association. He was also a 56-year member of the Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. of Miami County.

Those preceding him in death included five brothers, Otis Caylor, Francis Caylor, Raymond Caylor, Cecil Caylor and Vernon Caylor.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Caylor of the home; a son, Marion "Jim" Caylor of rural Osawatomie; two daughters, Marilyn J. Stevenson of Greeley and Maxine J. Goodwin of Lane; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home with Masonic rites. Pallbearers were Jeremy Goodwin, William Caylor, Arthur Roach, Bill McClain, Don Goudie and Jim Caylor. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials were to Midlane Hospice of Ottawa.
