SAMUEL AMOS BASHOR

Samuel A. “Sam” Bashor of Eugene, formerly of Florence, Kansas, died Sept. 9, 2008 of age-related causes. He was 83. At his request, no service is planned.

He was born July 18, 1925, in Topeka, Kan., to Samuel and Fanny Letsinger Bashor. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1943. He married Donna Lea Wyland in 1956.

Bashor served in the Navy as a signalman on the destroyer JC Owens 776 in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and served in the Coast Guard in 1948-1949. He worked as a brakeman and conductor on the Southern Pacific Railroad in Eugene for 33 years, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Bruce of Eugene; a stepdaughter, Sylvia Lyman of Florence; and two grandchildren. His wife died in 1977 and a granddaughter, Holly, and a stepson, Rocky Horton, died previously.
