RAYMOND STURTEVANT BOWERS, JR.

CLASS OF 1942

SEPTEMBER 30, 1924 - AUGUST 24, 1993

Raymond Sturtevant Bowers, Jr., age 68, of 115 Rohrer Heights Drive, Osawatomie, KS died August 24, 1993 at his home after an extended illness.

Raymond was born September 30, 1924 in Osawatomie. He was the youngest of two children of Raymond Sturtevant Bowers, Sr. and Maude Elizabeth Hand Bowers. His older brother, Dean Bowers died at birth.

Raymond graduated from Osawatomie High School in the Class of 1942. He attended Independence Junior College in Independence, KS for one semester. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his discharge from the military, he entered the University of Kansas and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Raymond was married on July 22, 1950 in Osawatomie to Helen Irene McMeins. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children.

Raymond worked for the Osawatomie State Hospital in the early 50s and then Taylor Forge at Paola, KS. From 1960 to 1971, he was employed at Smith and Loveless in Lenexa. He then started his own business, Enviro-Line Company in Osawatomie. Raymond retired January 1, 1993.

Raymond was a member of the First Christian Church, the Elks Lodge #921, the John Hinkle Post #204 of the American Legion, The Hanlin-Kelley Post #2258 of the VFW, the Osage Valley Lodge #24 AF&AM, the Osawatomie Chapter #26 of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Kansas Civil Engineering Society.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Mark Franklin Bowers.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; one son, Richard Dean Bowers of Osawatomie; one daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Bowers Vander Wall of Mission, KS; his stepmother Ruth E. Bowers of Osawatomie; and three grandchildren, Trisha Marie Bowers, Brandon Ray Bowers, and Benjamin Jay Sturtevant Vander Wall.
