Bertha Mae (Pinneo) Lanning age 89, of Coffeyville, KS formerly of Osawatomie, KS died Saturday May11, 2013 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS.

Bertha was born on June 22, 1923 in Osawatomie, KS to Norman C. and Lucinda (Overfelt) Pinneo the youngest of three children. She attended Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1941.

On March 4, 1945 Bertha married Paul Lester Lanning Jr. at the First Methodist Church of Osawatomie. They became the parents of one daughter.

Lester worked for the railroad; his job moved them several times, Georgia, Hoisington, KS, Conway Springs, KS, Fredonia, KS and finally settling in Coffeyville, KS in 1963.

Bertha and Lester had one child Nancy Maureen Lanning. Nancy was paraplegic from birth. Bertha was her constant caregiver; she took care of her every need. Bertha literally carried Nancy in her arms until her death at the age of 55.

After the loss of her husband on May 28, 1998 then her daughter on Oct. 9, 2001. Bertha began to care for dogs that had health problems. At different times she cared for dogs that suffered from diabetes, epilepsy, and had gone blind. She would donate dog food to the local animal shelter, but would have someone else take it there for her or she would bring home more dogs.

Bertha was a member of the Methodist Church of Coffeyville, KS, the Elk Club #921 of Osawatomie and the Ladies Auxiliary of the UTU.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter and two brothers: Norman C. Pinneo Jr. and Daman Pinneo.

She is survived by: Norma Moss of Utah, Steve, Alva and Louise Punshon of Osawatomie, KS of who all were dear to her heart.
